This historically based show has been a huge hit ever since its release. The Tudor era has always been somewhat of a “hot spot” of history because of all the changes that it brought about in addition to all its dramatic intrigue. This television show embraced the intense drama of the rule of Henry VIII—sex included—which is probably the reason it is so very popular. Henry VIII was the original playboy, but was played so effectively by the people around him that he is a perfect example of the atrocities that can be committed when one is easily swayed by the influences of others. Innocent women were beheaded, allowed to die in childbirth, or completely abandoned. However, with these facts contributing to the show’s success, one must then look to the program itself. It seems to have a weird look at time distortions. Anne Boleyn was featured for two full seasons; yet, the third season has already seen the introduction and leave of Jane Seymour and Anne of Cleeves. What exactly is the longevity of this show? Once Queen Elizabeth I dies, the show will be over since her death is the end of the Tudor reign because she was childless. Yet, the show is marching at such a quick pace that it may reach that point relatively quickly. Also, with the induction of Elizabeth as queen, they will loose the sexual drama aspect of the show as she was known as the “Virgin Queen.” Will people watch once the program gets to this point? Guess we will have to see.
